Track restoration project phase 1 – Platform rebuild

The overall project has replaced the first 45 metres of track, to ensure continuing safe operation of the train. During the main project the old wooden platform was removed. This project replaced the platform with a taller one that eases accessibility.
Included within this project was the replacement of the handrail and the fencing at the start of the pier.
With the completion of this project, the Hythe Southampton Ferry Company has taken the opportunity to change the way the platform is operated. A new more substantial handrail has been fitted, a mid platform access step and handrail, a substantial access ramp and an “exit only” gate to ensure a safer operation. Thicker and clearer yellow lining at the platform edge give a clearer indication of the safe areas on the platform.
The this project and the overall track restoration phase 1 project were completed and opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO on the 2nd October 2024
